Can anyone tell me what the bushy things in these trees are? I've been puzzling about them for thirty-five years. Are they squirrel dreys or are they rogue outcrops of tree? (Nina - I'm relying on you here.)
Hi Belinda, sorry I haven'y popped by for a while, just caught up with your various ramblings which have been lovely and thought provoking. I for one would miss them if you stopped. The bushy things above are 'witch's brooms' Squirrel dreys do look similar from below but would not be so numerous and would not be out in precarious looking places but would be tucked more into a crook or fork in a tree or branch.
